Welcome to FixCreditExperts.com. It is our mission to study what causes people to get into big credit card debt problems and also to research and offer ways to get out of it as fast as possible so you can live a debt free life. Many people end up with huge credit card debt and the question is why does this happen in the first place. There are many reasons that cause people to buy things strictly with their credit card even though their bank account is pretty much empty. Here are a few things that can cause this:

Need to pay bills:

We all have bills to pay and during tough economic times if you happen to have lost your job then you may feel forced to use your credit card to pay off some bills. In this situation there really is not much else you can do other than perhaps use a line of credit instead as interest rates are usually much less there but if that option is not available then using the credit card really is your best option until you find another job or source of income.

Only paying monthly minimum payments:

If you have a large credit card balance, usually over one to two thousand dollars then more than likely you are paying a high interest rate. If all you do is pay the monthly minimum then your balance may never get to zero or even reduce due to the interest. You need to find a way to cut your spending so that you can afford to make bigger monthly payments until your balance gets close to zero.

Buying unnecessary things:

We all like to have the nicer things in life and when we see a friend buying something nice that we do not have we often get tempted to want to spend money that we do not have to get that same kind of stuff. This is where you need to develop the habit of only buying things you absolutely need in order to survive first. If you have extra cash in your bank account then go ahead and indulge

Not having a monthly budget:

If you do not have a good idea of how much you are spending each month then chances are that you are going to be spending too much each month and are going to end up sinking into more and more debt. Be sure to calculate how much you are spending each month and do your best to not spend more than you make each month.

Having too many credit cards:

You want to make sure that you do not sign up for too many credit cards as this will make it even more tempting to use them. Most people should do fine with one or two cards, ideally do not buy things on credit unless you know you can pay the balance back in full, this way you can avoid interest charges that can add up very quickly.

What to do if you have high credit card debt?

One option is to consolidate all your high interest credit card debts into a single lower interest card. You can apply for a lower interest line of credit from a lending institution and pay off the high interest credit card balances with that so that you are paying less interest and have a better chance of paying off a lower interest line of credit balance.

Be sure to pay off as much of the balance as you can, save or cut back on your monthly expenses so you can make a few extra payments to bring the balance down on your credit cards. Do not just pay the monthly due balance as this will make it very difficult to pay off the amount anytime soon as you will end up paying a lot in interest. Consult with your nearest financial advisor on how you can eliminate your credit card debt the fastest possible way.
